You know something’s not right, but finding answers is frustrating (at best).
There’s a lot of information out there about menopause and perimenopause. It can be confusing.
Maybe you can relate to these feelings:
“... figuring it all out has been a nightmare”
“... my provider was clueless”
“I need something to change, and I am tired of hating everyone and everything.”
Maybe your medical provider has told you:
“This is just midlife aging...”
“Let’s put you back on birth control pills.”
”You can’t have HRT if you’re getting a period.”
Maybe you tell yourself:
“This is just how it’s going to be, I guess”
“Maybe I’m not meant to be the happy mom”
“I should be able to figure this out—but I just can’t.”
The truth is, you’re not the problem. You’re smart. You’re capable. It’s not you, and you’re not overreacting.
Shouldn’t my doctor be able to tell me?
The traditional healthcare system has left women behind when it comes to midlife care. Unfortunately, women are left feeling invalidated and gaslit. Medical Providers are prescribing birth control and antidepressants at alarming rates. They’re simply not looking at the normal hormonal shifts every woman faces. And they’re not treating hormone decline as a clinical issue.
That’s why we’re here. Aurelia exists to give you the peace of mind you deserve, and the answers you need. While perimenopause isn’t traditionally diagnosed via blood test or urine test, we use those tools to give us a whole-body picture of your health so we can address all the complex changes that come with perimenopause. This is a drastic difference from the stories women tell us of being dismissed or diminished at the doctor’s office, and being told “testing hormones is impossible because they change so much.”
Things need to change.
Starting now.
We’ll cover the basics first.
What is menopause?
Let’s clear this one up first. If you’re wondering if you’re “in menopause,” the answer is simple. Menopause is just one day. It’s the day you haven’t had your menstrual period for 12 consecutive months.
What is perimenopause?
Prior to menopause (that one day), you’re in perimenopause. After that one day, you’re postmenopausal.
Perimenopause can start 10–15 years before menopause, as your estrogen and progesterone levels gradually decline and become more irregular. Symptoms include mood swings, vaginal dryness, sleep struggles, and weight gain. Other uncomfortable symptoms include low libido, urinary incontinence, and anxiety.
Still, there are other reasons you may not be feeling well.
Take our quiz to see if it’s perimenopause or something else.
What are some common perimenopausal symptoms?
Perimenopausal symptoms vary from woman to woman. Irregular periods and hot flashes are the poster children for perimenopause and menopause, but they’re just a couple examples in a complex web of possible symptoms. Other symptoms you may notice:
✓ Disrupted sleep; difficulty falling asleep
✓ You have more anxiety than you had before
✓ You don’t feel like yourself
✓ You’ve lost your (much needed) energy
✓ Something just doesn’t feel right
✓ The brain fog is here and it is strong
✓ Joint pain is an uninvited guest
✓ Libido? What libido? Sex starts to feel like a chore
These are just a few. As women, we’re unique and so are our symptoms.
